At approximately 8:30 a.m., as voters queued for accreditation, Boko Haram insurgents positioned atop the Mandara Mountains launched two mortar bombs into Gwoza town. One shell targeted the Sabon Gari polling unit at the Gwoza stadium, while the other struck a building adjacent to the AA Garba filling station near the INEC office. The attack was intended to drive fear into voters and discourage them from exercising their franchise. It caused panic and temporarily disrupted the voting process. The injured were evacuated to Maiduguri for medical treatment.
