A massive ethnic conflagration erupted in the outskirts of Wukari after a dispute over grazing land between Jukun farmers and Fulani herders in Nwokyo village escalated into a pre-dawn raid by armed attackers. The initial attack on 15 April left at least 50 people dead, mostly civilians, and triggered immediate and deadly reprisals by Jukun youth against Hausa-Fulani settlements within Wukari town. The violence, which included widespread arson, lasted for hours, leading to the destruction of property and places of worship.
One Fulani man was killed at Asaa, a Jukun village, by Tiv militias.
Zaki-Biam was razed, properties destroyed, over 100 people killed, and thousands fled to the hinterland.
