Fyayi village in Wukari LGA, Taraba State, was destroyed by Tiv
Methodus Chimaije Emmanuel, a 24-year-old Christian trader, was lynched by a mob in Pandogari, Niger. The violence was ignited by an allegation that Methodus had posted a "blasphemous" comment about the Prophet Muhammad on social media (Facebook). A mob tracked him down, killed him, and subsequently went on a rampage, attacking the local Christian community and looting shops.
A violent uprising broke out in the Jimeta suburb of Yola, then the capital of Gongola State (present-day Adamawa State), when followers of the outlawed Maitatsine (Yan Tatsine) sect escaped from jail and went on a rampage through a crowded marketplace. The rioters, led by a close disciple of the sect's founder named Musa Suleiman (also known as Musa Makaniki), specifically targeted Christians and moderate Muslims, leading to widespread destruction.
