A farmer-herder clash occurred in Agaie Local Government Area, Niger, on Monday, 25 August 2025, at about 2:00 pm . The incident began when Hassan Auta, a herder from a Fulani camp in Makwagi village, allegedly trespassed with his cattle into the farm of Hadiza Usman of Koroka village . An altercation ensued after Usman asked Auta to remove his cattle, but he refused and instead attacked her with a machete, inflicting deep cuts on her left thigh . Her son, Bashiru Mohammed, who heard her cries, rushed to her aid but was also attacked by Auta, sustaining a cut on his left hand . In retaliation, Mohammed struck Auta on the head with a machete, leading to his death from severe bleeding before he could receive medical attention .
A herdsman led his cattle into a rice field, causing a confrontation with local farmers. During the ensuing clash, a farmer was killed. Police were deployed to the area to calm the situation
