Following the massive January 20 "Kano Blitz," insurgents launched a targeted raid on the Sharada Police Station in the industrial district of Kano. The attackers utilized improvised explosive devices (IEDs) to breach the facility's perimeter and structural walls before engaging in a firefight with officers. The assault was designed to sustain the pressure on the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) during a period when the city was under a heavy military curfew.

Police at the station engaged the attackers in a gun battle, repelled them, secured the area, and began mopping-up operations. Kano police spokesman Magaji Musa Majia’a confirmed the attack, injury, and police control. Heightened security/alerts followed in Kano.

The Sharada raid demonstrated that the group's Kano cells had transitioned from "mass-casualty" events to "sustained-attrition" warfare. They shifted toward hitting one station at a time to force the JTF to keep its forces scattered across the metropolis.

This reflected earlier police targeting, including the February 5, 2012 killing of an SSS officer in Damaturu, the January 2012 multi-site bombings in Kano, and previous attacks on police in Maiduguri. It followed a recurring cycle in which large-scale massacres trigger intensified pressure, leading to smaller, frequent strikes against police to weaken state capacity and expand operations into new urban areas such as Kano’s Sharada. It also foreshadowed the persistent pattern of police station raids and bombings seen throughout the Boko Haram insurgency and later in Banditry-affected zones.
