The assailants reportedly pretended to lodge a complaint before opening fire, taking the personnel by surprise. Three police corporals were killed (conflicting accounts: the police commissioner later stated 3 killed, while some residents reported seeing two dead bodies) and at least fourothers injured, including an inspector. The attackers looted the armoury, carting away all the arms and ammunition.
