Following the attacks, the Joint Task Force (JTF) in Yobe intensified patrols and house-to-house searches in the neighborhoods of Anguwar Bolawa and Sabon Layi. Local residents reported a significant increase in security checkpoints, which led to friction between the youth and security forces. Two suspected Boko Haram militants on Sunday shot a 55‑year‑old Muslim cleric, Malam Dala, dead at his residence in Zinnari near London‑Ciki, Maiduguri, Borno State. According to eyewitnesses, the killers parked their Peugeot 505 car at a nearby farm and, around 11 a.m., walked to the cleric‘s house through the farm. One of them pulled out a rifle hidden under his gown and fired several shots at Dala’s chest and head. The two men then returned to their car and drove away. The cleric, who had received a written threat from the gunmen some months earlier, had reportedly taken the matter lightly.
A large group of about 20 Boko Haram insurgents attacked a police station in the Lamisula and Abaganaram areas of Maiduguri late on Saturday, 24 March 2012, using rifles, explosives and rocket launchers. After a fierce gunbattle that lasted into the early hours of Sunday, troops of the Joint Task Force (JTF) repelled the attack. The surviving sect members retreated through narrow paths, reorganised, and shot dead a retired police inspector and two of his friends right in front of his house. A nearby security patrol responded almost instantly to the gunfire. In the ensuing gun battle, security forces successfully neutralised three of the attackers. The confrontation forced about 200 residents to lie face down on the streets to avoid crossfire, and many slept outside as a curfew was imposed.
