The attack occurred just after Friday prayers attended by the Shehu and the Borno State Deputy Governor, Zanna Umar Mustapha. Both men escaped unharmed. The blast killed five people, including the bomber, and injured six others (two soldiers among them).

Five female suicide bombers staged a coordinated attack on Kofa village. A coordinated bombing and shooting attack targeted a military checkpoint in the Guddum area of Maiduguri, Borno State, as worshippers were leaving a nearby mosque after Juma‘at prayers. At about 1:30 pm on a busy Tuesday, a suspected suicide bomber drove a vehicle disguised as a firewood seller's cart into the crowded GSM Market (known as the Post Office Market) in Maiduguri. The attacker detonated the explosives in the vehicle, causing a massive blast. The explosion killed at least 17 people at the scene and the death toll later rose to 43 as the severely injured died in hospitals. The number of injured people was initially reported as 50, but the final count was at least 53. The attack shattered a month of relative calm in the city.
