Assailants suspected to be Boko Haram infiltrated the Gwange area of Maiduguri, Borno State, and carried out a gruesome attack. They beheaded five residents in their homes and on the streets.
ISWAP fighters in several pickup trucks fitted with machine guns attacked Nigerian and Chadian troops stationed in Gajiram. Local hunters assisted the security forces in repelling the attack. During the battle, the defenders fired a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) that struck one of the insurgent vehicles, destroying it and killing all fighters on board. The remaining militants fled. Eight people were killed in the attack: a policeman, a local hunter, and six residents.
