The Joint Task Force (JTF) engaged the insurgents in a fierce gun battle that lasted several hours into the night. Following the insurgents' retreat, the military imposed a 24-hour curfew. The destruction of schools led to a complete suspension of Western education in the LGA for several weeks.

Socioeconomic drivers
Boko Haram’s intent to destroy state infrastructure, intimidate communities, and enforce its anti-education ideology.
Trajectory
Boko Haram’s pattern of targeting schools and government institutions, foreshadowing later large-scale assaults in Yobe
Cycle notes
Mirrored earlier coordinated Boko Haram assaults on urban centers, combining bombings, gunfire, and arson against state institutions, including the 20 January 2012 Kano coordinated attacks, the 26 August 2011 Bauchi prison break and police station bombings, and the 4 November 2011 Damaturu attacks, by striking multiple government and public targets simultaneously to inflict mass casualties and disrupt administrative authority. The burning of government buildings and schools also reflected the insurgency’s escalating campaign against state infrastructure and Western-style education seen in the 7 September 2012 Potiskum school attacks and the 6–7 July 2013 Mamudo school massacre in Yobe State. The Potiskum assault further foreshadowed later large-scale coordinated raids on towns in the northeast, including the 5 May 2014 Gamboru Ngala massacre and the 29 January 2015 Baga and surrounding villages destruction, where militants similarly combined firearms, explosives, and arson to overwhelm communities and devastate public institutions.
