A joint military and State Security Service (SSS) operation raided a residential building following a tip-off that Boko Haram was planning a major suicide mission targeting Zaria, Kaduna, and Suleja to coincide with Nigeria's Independence Day anniversary celebrations (October 1). The building was discovered to be a bomb factory heavily loaded with explosives and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) . A fierce gun battle ensued between security forces and the suspected terrorists . Following the operation, army engineers conducted a controlled detonation of the recovered explosives, which caused a massive blast that destroyed approximately seven houses and damaged 20 others in the surrounding area . Terrorists invaded Gidan Kwairo village, triggering a swift response from troops of the 17 Brigade, who were operating alongside local vigilantes and Keystone operatives. The joint security team engaged the attackers in a gun battle, forcing them to flee the village. During the engagement, the terrorists abandoned five kidnapped victims, who were subsequently rescued by the troops. One local resident was killed by the assailants, and another sustained gunshot injuries. The injured victim was evacuated to Malumfashi General Hospital for treatment.
In one of the earliest high-intensity urban confrontations in Kano, security forces raided a Boko Haram safe house in the Darmanawa residential area. The raid targeted a suspected sect leader, leading to a prolonged gun battle.
