In a carefully coordinated two‑stage operation, suspected Boko Haram militants first attacked the police station in Banki, a town near the Cameroon border in Borno State. The officers on duty repelled the assault, and no casualties were reported on the police side. About five hours later, the gunmen shifted their focus to Kumshe, a nearby town, where they stormed the local prison lock‑up.
