Boko Haram insurgents ambushed and killed seven fishermen and injured 15 others in Baga, a fishing community on Lake Chad in Borno State. The attackers burned local boats and fishing nets used for catching fish. Fisherman Ibrahim Gambo, who brought his wounded brother to Maiduguri for treatment, stated: "They killed seven fishermen, injured 15 others and burnt some local boats and nets used for catching fish"

Suspected Boko Haram gunmen dressed in Nigerian Army uniforms attacked worshippers leaving the central mosque in Dumba village, Kukawa LGA, Borno State, after early morning prayers. The attackers positioned themselves at a crossroads outside the mosque and opened fire indiscriminately. Defence spokesman Brigadier General Chris Olukolade confirmed 35 civilians were killed and 14 wounded, describing the massacre as a reprisal: “Boko Haram people attacked the village on the ground that they have refused to cooperate with them, that they refused their message.” The attack occurred on Monday but, due to the extreme remoteness of Dumba and the telecommunications blackout imposed during the State of Emergency, news of the massacre did not reach the public until Friday, 23 August.

A group of gunmen arrived at the Damboa Local Government Secretariat in four unmarked vehicles. They used Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and petrol bombs to set the council secretariat complex, a fire station, and approximately 20 housing units ablaze. As the fire service mobilized to extinguish the flames, the gunmen emerged from hiding and opened fire on the responders. The attackers chanted "Allah Akbar" (God is great) during the assault
