Two female suicide bombers riding in motorized rickshaws (Keke NAPEP) launched coordinated attacks. The first bomber targeted the Bakassi IDP camp, detonating her explosives at the entrance as residents were leaving the camp, killing five men and injuring 11 women . The second bomber, also in a rickshaw, approached the NNPC fuel station following a fuel tanker "with the sole aim of gaining entry to cause maximum damage and casualty" but was prevented from entering the station by another vehicle; she detonated at the entrance, killing herself and the two other occupants of the rickshaw.

Cycle notes
Mirrored earlier paired suicide attacks in urban centers by Boko Haram, such as the 7 March 2015 coordinated Maiduguri bombings and the 8 July 2016 twin mosque attacks in Borno, reflecting a recurring tactic of deploying multiple bombers in quick succession to maximize casualties and overwhelm response efforts; it also reinforces a sustained pattern of repeated attacks within Maiduguri in October 2016, illustrating an effort to maintain persistent pressure and visibility in the region’s primary urban stronghold despite ongoing military operations.
