A driver in a Toyota Starlet approached children playing by the roadside and handed one of them a polythene bag, claiming it contained money and valuables meant for their father . As the children carried the bag home, they became curious and attempted to open it. The bag exploded, killing two boys instantly and injuring several others, including a passerby.
A male suicide bomber disguised as a passenger targeted a bus that was preparing to depart for Kano. The man passed through a security checkpoint but set off a metal detector. When guards told him to stand aside, he forced his way onto the bus and detonated explosives. The explosion completely destroyed the bus and damaged other vehicles at the station. The bomber killed himself and initially 13 others, with four more injured victims later dying in the hospital, bringing the final death toll to 17. More than 30 people were injured.
At approximately 9:00 p.m., an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was detonated under a tree outside the Park & Shop mall, adjacent to Banex Plaza, in Wuse II District, Abuja. The blast, which witnesses reported was likely thrown from a moving vehicle, targeted AJ's Place at Sharif Plaza . A private security guard sustained injuries from shattered glass and was rushed to hospital for treatment . Anti-bomb squad operatives subsequently discovered and successfully detonated a second unexploded IED at the scene. NEMA spokesman Yushau Shuaib confirmed "no human casualty" , while FCT Police Commissioner Adenrele Shinaba assured residents that security forces were "equal to the task."
