The Borno State Commissioner of Agriculture, Alhaji Muhammad Dilli, publicly confirmed the attack and identified the victims. He noted that despite thousands of farmers returning to farms in liberated areas, most could not go to the farms for fear of insurgent attacks. The state government had procured N40 billion worth of agricultural inputs and equipment over the past six years but could not distribute them due to the insurgency

In a sustained overnight assault, a large group of heavily armed gunmen stormed the village of Karshin Daji. The attackers targeted residential homes and church-affiliated buildings, utilizing a combination of high-caliber firearms and arson.
