Cycle notes
Mirrors earlier Boko Haram attacks including the 21 April 2015 Baga ambush on military positions, 15 November 2016 Bita–Piridang combined IED and gunfire attack, 29 January 2017 Maiduguri–Damboa convoy ambush, 9 February 2017 Ajiri–Dikwa road assault on troop movements, and 20 June 2017 convoy engagement targeting security escorts, reflecting a recurring shift toward mobile, intelligence-driven harassment of military forces along forest corridors linking Sambisa and Alagarno, aimed at disrupting troop logistics, inflicting attritional losses, capturing resources, and gradually undermining state control over contested rural terrain.

The assailants stormed the outpost in large numbers and opened fire, forcing two NSCDC personnel on duty to take cover as the attackers riddled the patrol vehicle and the small office structure with bullets. During the attack, the Bandits made away with one G3 rifle officially assigned to an NSCDC operative. No casualties were recorded, and the personnel escaped unharmed.

A total of 25 people were killed, including a former commissioner for health (Adiel Bilae), a deputy prison comptroller (Baba Musa), a policeman, the proprietor of a beer parlour and his wife. The attackers blasted open the prison gates and cells, freeing 127 inmates. The police were unable to contain the attackers due to their superior firepower.
