In a daring operation targeting the Presidency’s inner circle, Alhaji Musa Umar, the Magajin Garin Daura, was abducted from his home when six gunmen arrived in an unregistered blue Peugeot 406 shortly after Maghrib prayer, fired into the air to disperse bystanders, and forced him into the vehicle before fleeing.

The Inspector‑General of Police deployed the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) led by DCP Abba Kyari to track the kidnappers. After two months of intelligence gathering, a rescue operation was launched on 2 July 2019 in the Panshekara/Kumbotso area of Kano City. Following a fierce gun battle at a secluded house, the victim was rescued unhurt. 11 suspects were arrested alive, and the kidnappers’ hideout was dismantled .
