Armed Bandits attacked Makauwachi village in Safana LGA, Katsina State, killing 19 residents. The attack was part of a larger, coordinated assault on multiple villages across Danmusa, Dutsinma, and Safana LGAs between 12:30 a.m. and 3:00 a.m., which killed a total of 47 people. According to police spokesman SP Gambo Isah, the violence escalated after a local Yan Sakai vigilante group "started setting ablaze some Fulani settlements at Aibon Mangwaro village" following an initial repelled attack on Kurechi village. The attackers then launched "organised and simultaneous attacks" on six villages, with Makauwachi suffering the highest single-village death toll of 19 .

Trajectory

The Makauwachi attack served as a wake-up call to the Federal Government. It demonstrated that Banditry was no longer a "communal clash" over cattle but had evolved into a paramilitary insurgency. This event directly influenced the decision to deploy the Air Force's 213 Forward Operating Base in Katsina to conduct more frequent kinetic operations.

Cycle notes

Mirrors earlier Boko Haram operations including the 2013–2015 wave of coordinated multi-village raids across rural Borno (including Gumsuri and nearby settlements), the 13 December 2014 Gumsuri mass abduction and village burning, the 2016–2017 synchronized attacks on farming communities in northern Borno, the 10 February 2017 Mussa village raid involving looting and arson, and the 15 June 2016 Kau–Tuva destruction campaign, reflecting a recurring pattern of simultaneous or closely timed assaults on multiple rural communities designed to overwhelm local defenses, disrupt rural security coordination, and enforce territorial control through widespread, coordinated violence across dispersed settlements.
