At approximately 7:45 p.m., hundreds of heavily armed terrorists attacked the Abuja–Kaduna bound train (AK9) between Katari and Rijana in Kaduna State. The attackers planted Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) on the track, forcing the train, carrying an estimated 970 passengers, to a halt. They then surrounded the coaches, opened fire indiscriminately, and forcibly abducted scores of passengers into the surrounding forest. The assault, which lasted several hours, killed at least 10 persons, injured dozens, and resulted in the kidnapping of 62 passengers

Suspected Boko Haram gunmen launched a highly specific, targeted invasion of the residence of ASP Mohammed Modu, the Officer-in-Charge of the Tattaba Out Station (under the Bara Division).
