About 12 armed men on motorcycles invaded Unguwan Shola community near the former Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Katsina metropolis, Katsina State. The attackers went from house to house, demanding money, phones, food items and other valuables, before abducting eight persons—seven men and one woman (including a married woman and her two-year-old baby). The police, however, officially confirmed the abduction of six persons. One of the abducted men, Mannir Jayi, escaped from the captors and is helping police with investigations. The abductors later demanded a ransom of N60 million (₦7.5 million per victim).

Response

The Katsina State Police Command confirmed the incident. The Commissioner of Police deployed the Anti-Kidnap Unit and other operational assets to the area. The police stated they would not rest until the victims were rescued unhurt. The abductors demanded a ransom of ₦60 million, though the police stated they had yet to receive information regarding the demand at the time of reporting.
