In a massive, coordinated, multi‑pronged offensive that began around 5:00 pm, Boko Haram launched simultaneous attacks on at least eight government and security installations across Kano, Nigeria’s second‑largest city. The assault began with a suicide car bomber driving a Honda Civic (Lagos registration) into the Zone 1 Police Headquarters, the regional command responsible for Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa states, killing three police officers and the bomber. Almost simultaneously, a second suicide bomber drove a Toyota Camry towards the Bompai State Police Headquarters but was shot dead by officers before he could detonate; a heavy time bomb was later found in his car. Coordinated bombings and armed assaults hit the Zaria Road Police Station, Farm Centre Police Station, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) office, the State Security Service (SSS) headquarters, a NNPC mega station, and police barracks and residences in Mariri, Bompai, and Panshekara. Gunmen specifically targeted the homes of police officers and security personnel in their private spaces, seeking to maximize chaos. Channels Television journalist Enenche Okwumegu was shot dead while covering the attacks.
