Displacement

100+

Socioeconomic drivers

Long-standing land/resource disputes, ethno-communal tensions, and weak rural security presence.

Trajectory

This attack was part of a series of violent raids in Benue during September 2022, showing escalation from isolated ambushes to multi-community assaults.

Cycle notes

This area has been under siege since the 2014 Logo Massacres. The Mchia attack mirrors the 2018 Logo raids where communities between Anyiin and Ayilamo were systematically targeted to create a "no-man's land."

Pattern

Nocturnal Raids — A tactic designed to catch agrarian populations while they are sleeping or in their homes, maximizing the death toll and psychological impact.
