A large contingent of gunmen, numbering between 100 and 200, stormed Yelewata town in Guma Local Government Area, Benue State, in a coordinated overnight assault. The attackers, armed with AK-47 rifles and other sophisticated weapons, laid siege to the community for over two hours, firing indiscriminately, breaking into homes, and setting shelters ablaze. Many victims were internally displaced persons (IDPs) who had sought refuge in Yelewata market stalls and shops, fleeing earlier attacks in surrounding communities. The attackers reportedly poured petrol on shelters before setting them on fire, burning victims alive.
