Hundreds of Boko Haram insurgents on motorcycles and vehicles stormed the villages, going house-to-house and mercilessly slaughtering people like Christmas goats. They burned almost all the houses after looting them. A group of gunmen suspected to be members of Boko Haram launched an attack on the Rijiyar Zaki Police Station, which is situated along the Bayero University Kano (BUK) new campus road, in the Ungogo Local Government Area of Kano city. The assailants, who arrived on motorcycles, opened fire on the police station and attempted to breach its defences. A gun battle ensued between the attackers and the police officers on duty, which lasted for approximately 20 minutes. The police successfully repelled the attack, forcing the gunmen to flee. During the exchange of fire, three police officers sustained gunshot injuries.
