Boko Haram gunmen carried out a reprisal attack in Dawashe village, near Baga town, Borno State. The assault targeted civilians, mostly fishermen and traders, killing more than 20 people. The attack was in retaliation for an earlier confrontation with a vigilante group (Civilian JTF) that had challenged Boko Haram in the area. The gunmen opened fire indiscriminately, leaving widespread casualties and fear among residents.
Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists, disguised in military uniforms to avoid detection, attacked two rural communities near Chibok on New Year's Day. The terrorists arrived in trucks fitted with machine guns and on motorcycles. They first attacked Gatamarwa, opening fire on residents, including a group of mourners returning from a funeral. They killed 12 people in Gatamarwa and then moved to Tsiha, killing three more people and abducting a young woman.
In a pre‑dawn, multi‑target raid, about 30 heavily armed Boko Haram insurgents attacked the Dikwa Divisional Police Station, a branch of Unity Bank, the Freedom Hotel, and attempted to set fire to the Dikwa Local Government Council Secretariat. The attackers, who arrived in multiple vehicles and on motorcycles, used explosives to breach the police station and engaged security forces in a sustained gun battle. The station was set ablaze, and the bank and hotel were also torched. During the raid, the gunmen killed a Police Inspector, the former Chairman of Dikwa Local Government Council, and Alhaji Babagana Ali Karim. The Joint Task Force (JTF) and police jointly engaged the attackers, killing three of them and forcing the others to retreat toward the Marsa and Ngala axes with gunshot wounds.
