A large contingent of gunmen, numbering between 100 and 200, stormed Yelewata town in Guma Local Government Area, Benue State, in a coordinated overnight assault. The attackers, armed with AK-47 rifles and other sophisticated weapons, laid siege to the community for over two hours, firing indiscriminately, breaking into homes, and setting shelters ablaze. Many victims were internally displaced persons (IDPs) who had sought refuge in Yelewata market stalls and shops, fleeing earlier attacks in surrounding communities. The attackers reportedly poured petrol on shelters before setting them on fire, burning victims alive.

Nine Nigerian soldiers were killed in a gunfight with Boko Haram jihadists near the town of Baga, Borno State, on the shores of Lake Chad. According to two military officers who spoke to AFP, seven soldiers died on the spot, while two others later succumbed to their injuries in hospital. One soldier was wounded, and five others remained missing following the clash. It was unclear whether Boko Haram suffered any casualties. The clash occurred as Boko Haram had given permission to residents to bury the dead bodies of farmers killed by rival ISWAP militants, anticipating an ISWAP attack on the funeral.
