Armed Bandits carried out a midnight attack on Edogi Chapa community in Pategi LGA, Kwara State. Two women were abducted during the raid.
Bandits launched a massive, coordinated attack on Kurechin Atai and surrounding villages. The assault began in the early morning hours (approx. 00:30 to 03:00 hrs) following an earlier skirmish where villagers had tried to defend themselves. Armed with AK-47s, the Bandits overwhelmed the local defense, specifically targeting Kurechin Atai as part of a wider rampage that hit 10 villages across three local government areas.
Troops from the 1 Division of the Nigerian Army immediately mobilized, evacuated the injured to hospitals (some referred to Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, Kaduna), and launched rescue operations. Among the deceased were Elisha Pius, Japhet Bitrus, Obadiah Joshua, and Luka Augustine of Wake, as well as Ezekiel Augustine, Ishaya Paul, and Bulus Bawa of Gadanaji village. Witnesses said the Bandits “stormed the community in their large numbers and carried out their heinous act unchallenged”. A ninth victim later succumbed to injuries, raising the death toll to nine.
