Gunmen killed two police officers and a passer-by at a checkpoint in Isanlu, Yagba East LGA, Kogi .

Boko Haram/ISWAP insurgents conducted coordinated attacks on scrap metal collectors in Modu and Mugdala communities, Biu Local Government Area, Borno State. A total of 55 people were killed in the attacks, which took place over three weeks. The victims were targeted as they collected scrap metal—a livelihood activity for many displaced and impoverished residents.

At approximately 5:30 pm, dozens of ISWAP fighters in trucks fitted with machine guns attacked the military base in Marte town and a nearby checkpoint, overrunning the facility after a fierce battle. The attack came just two months after the government had resettled some 2,870 people in the town, which had been abandoned for six years. Residents said the gunmen torched buildings, looted food stores and military equipment, and hoisted their flag over the captured barracks. Hundreds of civilians fled into the surrounding bush, while surviving troops and police officers retreated to Dikwa, about 25 km away. A previously repelled attack had served as a probe, enabling the insurgents to mobilise reinforcements for the decisive raid.

Boko Haram gunmen attacked four hill communities of Hwa’a, Kunde, Gathahure, and Gjigga, setting four churches ablaze with improvised explosive devices and petrol bombs. The insurgents, who approached on foot, looted livestock and grain reserves. In Hwa’a community, gunmen targeted a retired clergyman, Rev. Jacob Kwiza (rtd) of the Church of Christ in Nigeria (COCIN), while he was picking mangoes. They forced him to renounce Christianity and convert to Islam; upon his refusal, they slit his throat. He was killed alongside two other worshippers.
