The Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Council, Maxwell Ogiri, confirmed the development and stated that security agencies had been mobilized to investigate and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice . The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, said she was yet to receive full details of the incident at the time of reporting

A group of more than 40 loggers left Shehuri, on the outskirts of Gamboru, on Thursday morning to collect firewood in the Wulgo forest. They failed to return by evening as usual. The following day (Friday), a search party mobilized by local militia leaders went deep into the forest and recovered three bodies identified as among the loggers. All three were shot from behind, indicating they were killed while attempting to escape. The remaining loggers were presumed kidnapped by Boko Haram, which maintains camps in the forest.

In a well-coordinated assault echoing earlier Gombe raids, insurgents suspected to be members of Boko Haram struck Askira Uba, Borno State. A large contingent of gunmen arrived in the town around 10:00 am, operating in two distinct groups. The first group attacked the police station, using improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and heavy gunfire to suppress security forces, setting the building ablaze and killing a police officer. Simultaneously, a second team stormed a commercial bank some distance away, breaching the vault with explosives and carting away a substantial sum of money. The attack threw the community into confusion and lasted for over two hours.
