The Zamfara State Police Command confirmed the attack. Police Public Relations Officer ASP Yazid Abubakar stated that the assailants locked the mosque and shot worshippers. He confirmed that several worshippers sustained injuries and were taken to Gusau Hospital for treatment. The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Maikaba, identified the deceased victims and stated that the Bandits' strategy is to target places of worship to attract public attention. He revealed that the attack was carried out by Bandits loyal to a kingpin known as Bakin Malam. Additional personnel have been deployed across the state to enhance security, particularly around places of worship.

A large group of armed Bandits ambushed a convoy of troops and traders along the Lilo–Gulubba Road in Gusau LGA. The troops were escorting traders from Lilo village to the Gusau market when the attackers, who had laid in wait, emerged from hiding and opened fire on the convoy. A fierce gun battle ensued, resulting in the deaths of five soldiers (three killed instantly, two later dying from critical wounds) and ten villagers who were travelling as traders.
