Response

The Niger Police Command, through its Public Relations Officer SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident in a statement. He stated that a yet-to-be-identified vigilante man shot a woman in the leg during the resistance to illegal mining activities. The injured victim was taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, and the situation was brought under control. The DPO Gwada mobilized to the scene and persuaded the youths to unblock the road. Efforts to identify and arrest the vigilante responsible are ongoing. The mining site has been put on hold pending investigation.
