The Zamfara State Police Command, through its spokesperson DSP Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the incident and stated that security operatives had been deployed for a rescue operation . Police refuted claims that the abduction occurred directly in front of a police station, stating it happened about two kilometres from the nearest police station near a forested area . The kidnappers had not made any contact with the victims' families or issued any ransom demands at the time of reporting .

A large group of armed gunmen (Bandits), dressed in military camouflage and some wearing the same school uniform as the students, breached the school's perimeter by cutting through a hole in the fence.
