Security agencies in the area have yet to issue an official statement . The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Kogi Police Command, SP William Aya, said he was unaware of the development and promised to contact the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in the area to confirm . Efforts to speak with the INEC spokesperson, Samuel Olumekun, were unsuccessful as he did not pick up calls nor respond to a text message .

Dozens of armed gunmen on motorcycles stormed the school premises during the morning assembly. They fired into the air to disperse the crowd, surrounded the pupils and teachers, and marched them into the nearby forest. The attackers seized pupils from both the Government Secondary School and the LEA Primary School. One student was shot and hospitalised; some sources later reported that a 14‑year‑old pupil died from the gunshot wound.

In the early hours of Monday, armed men kidnapped Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Silas, the parish priest of St. Charles Catholic Church in Zambina, Kauru Local Government Area. The abduction was discovered when the priest failed to appear for morning mass. A statement from the Kafanchan Catholic Diocese, signed by Chancellor Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Uchechukwu Okolo, confirmed the incident, noting that Silas had been taken from the parish rectory. The diocese urged prayers and said it would use “every legitimate means to ensure his quick and safe release.”
