Three security personnel killed in armed ambush in Doma LGA, Nasarawa

Boko Haram gunmen attacked four hill communities of Hwa’a, Kunde, Gathahure, and Gjigga, setting four churches ablaze with improvised explosive devices and petrol bombs. The insurgents, who approached on foot, looted livestock and grain reserves. In Hwa’a community, gunmen targeted a retired clergyman, Rev. Jacob Kwiza (rtd) of the Church of Christ in Nigeria (COCIN), while he was picking mangoes. They forced him to renounce Christianity and convert to Islam; upon his refusal, they slit his throat. He was killed alongside two other worshippers.

Dozens of Boko Haram insurgents on motorcycles stormed the riverbanks near Mukdolo village, a remote settlement in Gamboru-Ngala Local Government Area along the Nigeria-Cameroon border. The fishermen, many of whom were internally displaced persons (IDPs) from nearby Dikwa town, were sorting their daily catch when the attackers surrounded them. According to survivor accounts, the insurgents had previously warned locals to stay away from the river, declaring it their exclusive territory. The attackers ordered the fishermen to lie down, wrapped them in their own fishing nets, tortured them until they lost consciousness, and then opened fire — killing them instantly. Some fishermen attempted to flee but were pursued and shot.

Following a humiliating defeat earlier in the month where local hunters and vigilantes repelled an insurgent raid, Boko Haram launched a massive "revenge" assault on Kala Balge. Hundreds of insurgents arrived in a convoy of technicals and motorcycles. Unlike other villages that fled, the residents of Kala Balge—known for their fierce local resistance—engaged the terrorists in a pitched battle.
