The Benue State Police Command, acting on distress calls, deployed patrol operatives and tactical squads to the scene. A fierce gun battle ensued between the security forces and the Bandits. The superior firepower of the police forced the assailants to retreat into the nearby forest, abandoning several passengers who had been stranded or were about to be abducted.

Acting on intelligence that a Boko Haram cell which had attacked a police station and a bank in Tudun Wada town would attempt to flee to Kano city, the Joint Task Force (JTF) laid an ambush at the main entry point to the town. The JTF blocked the major exit routes and engaged the fleeing gunmen in a fierce gun battle. The operation resulted in the deaths of nine suspected Boko Haram militants and the capture of two others alive.
